About Robert Scales

Robert Scales is the former CEO and Founder of the web marketing agency Raincity Studios which held operations in Vancouver, Canada and Shanghai, China. Robert is an avid photographer, he is passionate about social media and open source technologies, as well as espousing alternative business models.

As a gonzo journalist, Scales has covered events including the Olympic/Paralympic games in Turin, Beijing, and Vancouver. The Dalai Lama’s visit to Canada, and various rock bands and tech luminaries at SXSW, (a renowned cross industries: Interactive, Film and Music annual conference).

Besides publishing content on the various social media channels, he is quoted and his reportage appeared in MSM outlets as diverse as CBC National, CBC Le Telejournal, CBC Radio, The BBCThe Vancouver SunForbes.com, 21st Century Herald, and Canada.com.

Scales along side with Dave OlsonKris Krug and many others helped co-found the True North Media House, an independent, self-accredited news outlet which debut during the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Winner of a 2006 Canadian New Media Award, Robert also teaches at Vancouver Film School. He has been an advisor/director on several boards. He participated in the Canada World Youth cultural exchange programs as well as various social change, environmental workshops and training programs. He frequently presents at (un)conferences around the world about open source tech, business and culture.

Recently Robert has been focusing on personal development, following a smashing car accident in late February 2010, he was forced to slow down and listen to the lessons of life. He is spending most of his time on redefining himself, rebuilding his core strengths and regrouping for his next adventures….
