Robert Scales is the former CEO and Founder of the web agency Raincity Studios which held operations in Vancouver, Canada and Shanghai, China. He is an advocate of both winter and summer Olympics, open source technologies, and is involved in the open source community as well as espousing alternative business models.

As a gonzo journalist, Scales has covered events including the Olympic games in Turin and Beijing, the Dalai Lama’s visit to Vancouver, and various rock bands and tech luminaries at SXSW, a renowned cross industries annual conference. He is accredited by the BCIMC for the upcoming Vancouver 2010 games.

Besides publishing content on the various social media channels, his reportage appeared in MSM outlets as diverse as The BBC, Forbes.com,  Vancouver Access 2010, The Vancouver Sun, Canada.com, 21st Century Herald, and Warsaw Daily.

He is the winner of a 2006 Canadian New Media Award, and has won several awards and bursaries for his work with social media and Internet technologies

Robert also teaches at Vancouver Film School, he is often a guest lecturer at BCIT and other educational institutions. He is an advisor on several boards. He participated in the Canada World Youth cultural exchange programs as well as various social change workshops and training programs. He frequently presents at (un)conferences around the world about open source tech, business and culture.
