On our way back from Feast of Fields yesterday, we notice the hugh stack of smoke as we drove past Delta. It was not until today when I read the Globe and Mail, that I realized what we'd seen..

Delta's Burns Bog Fire, picture take while driving on Sunday 09/11/05

Authorities say the forested peat bog blaze which is located in Delta, just outside Vancouver, BC now covers about two square kilometres, up from 1.2 hectares.

Although winds are favourable, the fire, is sending thick, black smoke over much of the Lower Mainland including Vancouver. This is not only causing environmental issues but also affecting people with beathing problems such as Asthma.

My take on the fire; ever since the last "accidental" fire in 1995, it has been proposed to develop the land. I'd say someone got tired of waiting and set fire to it.

Am I too skeptical, what's your take?
