China Access 2008 is a strategic international business marketing and partnering initiative that has been consciously structured to help China better realize the unique economic development potential arising from Beijing’s hosting and staging of the 2008 Olympic Games.

The venture was publicly launched in Beijing by Vice Mayor Lu Hao in December 2004.

China Access 2008 will utilise the years leading up to the staging of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games to:

  • lift the international profile of China’s rapidly emerging capabilities in the key growth industries of the 21st Century.
  • The main focus is on the biosciences - in energy, industrial biotechnology, agriculture, environmental remediation and healthcare - along with the important converging information and communications technologies. These industries have been clearly identified by the country’s leadership as fundamental to the development of China’s future prosperity and, indeed, make up the majority of the projected pillar industries for most of China's 12 key cities. Importantly they also directly align with many of our identified stakeholders' specialist industries;
  • better enable selected Chinese companies become more global by facilitating international business partnering opportunities (both within China and overseas);
  • attract additional foreign direct investment and partnerships to China, particularly in the above key industry sectors; and
  • provide tangible strategic positioning and business development opportunities for both China Access 2008’s participants and business partners.
